1963 | Went to 7AM Mass - the priest would stop at any distraction. Worked the Twins double-header wins over LA. Made $15 selling 100 hot dogs. Fishing with Dad and Chris at Lake Nokomis - we caught one!
1977 | Adele R saw me about having regular lessons - she has a fantastic mind. Down to Y where George Hawkins [ed. - art teacher at Rosehill College at the time. Mayor of Papakura then Minister of Police in 2000-3] took photos. We lost to Lancers 29 - 18 in a very dirty game. I only made two free throws.
1983 | Th - Extremely cold overnight with a little rain thrown in. Kids slept in their own tent for the first time. Got a fire going and David was right there. Had Cream of Wheat for breakfast. Kids went on a hike with a Ranger while Gail and I hiked French Creek to find the remote campsite with thoughts that we would move there (about a 2 mile hike in). Saw a mountain goat up close and were overtaken by horseriders. Kids got certificates and badges and are now Jr Rangers. Drove through the clouds to Custer and walked through Flinstone's Bedrock City quickly because of rain. Too bad - much to see and do. Train and car ride at end. Bought a decision maker for Eliason. Inside to Western Wood Carvings which were great animated humerous depictions of old days. Thunderstorm put lights out about 6 times while we were in there. But rain stopped when we got back to our camp at 7:30PM. Got the fire going and had supper. Big tent leaked at the stitching. |

1995 | Autobahn with TP group. Very noisy and hard to carry on a conversation with the 15 or so who turned up. Had a Tott's brut with the meal.
1996 | Su - Doug and I went to Real Groovy Records and browsed for two hours. I bought The Angels' My Boyfriend's Back album ($9.95), Annette's Scrapbook ($11.95) and Best of British album ($9.95).
2001 | Needhams over for Margaritas, creole meal (very good Jacobs Creek '00 chardonnay) and an entertaining evening.
2002 | Father's Day. Gail and I went to Castle Golf for our golf rematch. The clerk asked me if I was a father - I said: "I have a 25 year old daughter, you interested?". Gail claims that she won by 1, but also admits that she failed to mark down a hole! (photo). Dairy Queen for lunch and a Buster Bar for dessert. Gail had a chocolate/mint Dilly Bar. Called Dad. Martha ("I don't do diapers, I don't do chili peppers...") and Josie stopped in for a visit and to pick up some items from the garage. We can now get the car in again. Angi called - great stories. We brought some pots up to Purnie. Gail and I moved her plants in from the garage. We checked out her new carpet and had a nice long visit and fun with Mollie. Apparently a skunk is eating some of her outdoor plants. After supper Gail and I went for a walk up and around the hill. | MacBeth? |
2004 | Clarks, where I was met by Alex on stilts. Had a gin and tonic with Sandy. After Mike finished eating we played r'n r Scattergories with Sophie. Here is my summary of it: "Mike Clark; he's in my top 5 of New Zealand business men who can't think of a single song about games, have no idea how to link the letter "k" with South Island rock & roll and have the same birth date as Dean Martin, of all time".
2005 | Mike over and we had a cake and gave him a Vroom Doorbell (race car sounds). Had a spectacular Spanish red (Canforrales 2003).
2006 | Needham's to spend four hours while computer did a dir command that produced 18,0000 tmp files over the next two hours. Managed to read a Rex Stout story "Invitation to Murder" while sipping a coffee. Home through thunderstorm - actually heard a lightning sizzle in the house (Elaine wanted me to stay the night). Chinese meal with Ann, Russell and Christopher (brought his electric guitar along). Russell and I got in three games of cribbage before Ian showed up with a bottle of a French Sentura Pinot Noir to celebrate his new Echo car. When Mike arrived we got up the TP game.
