1954 | Watched a total eclipse of the sun using photo negatives to protect our eyes.
1961 | High = 96°F. Found Squeaky [ed. - squirrel] at back door, very ill, so we took him to vet for antibiotics. I accidently hit John Windom in the back of his head with a dart.
1963 | Su - High = 100°F. Went to Nokomis and fished. Jerry and Opal visited. I brought Steve to see the clubhouse.
1967 | After work Steve, Kincy and I spent the night at the farm. Found out that Bernie moved to Springfield and that Grandpa and Rose are moving off the farm to Redwood Falls on 1st Sept. So this was my last visit and I took photos, unfortunately all the animals were gone.
1968 | Campfire breakfast in Jerry's field then lunch in the house. We rode around on the old Cushman Motor Scooter. Steve forced me to drive the VW from Henderson to Richfield, boy was I scared it being only the second time I had used a stick shift.
1978 | F - Snow in parts of Auckland (first time ever). Kids had fun recording with microphone making echos (Listen).
1979 | Sa - Walked David to Bronwyn's party. Aldersons over with a couple bottles of wine (McWilliams Reisling Moselle). We watched the telethon with guest host Norman Gunston.
1983 | Th - Schwitters over for strawberry shortcake.
1985 | Su - Breezes over for Chris' 17th. We had a meal and looked at slides. Played Trivial Pursuit, which Fran loved. Gave Chris a mousetrap and rat poison and aftershave.
1988 | OZ trip: Adelaide with Heasleys. Go to Trip Report
1990 | Sa - Ten car loads of Kelvin Road staff crowded into our yard. Bus took us to Henderson (Manurewa to pick up Fred (Maori) and Greenlane to stop for a blonde). Joy Berry (just became a grandmother) led the singing of caroles as Mary (van Teil), Marilyn and Lyn Thompson served beer, wine and juice. Wine tasting at Sapich Brothers (home of Purple Death). I tried half a sip of a rosé and a dry red and decided that they didn't know how to make wine. Others stocked up. Joy was flirting with the proprieter. Imagine 40 people crowded into a shack meant to hold 15, sipping rotten wine in small plastic cups on a cold rainy night. Christmas in July meal at The Golden Olive (owned by a teacher at KRS). Joy tried to get me up dancing at the beginning of the evening as did others through out. We started out sitting with Eric and Sue Dillon, Lucy Brown (makes extra women's undies to sell at Otara market) and her sister, Nancy Hawks and Trish O'D. Later we moved to talk to Shanta and her husband (from Fiji). Various people took turns singing. Someone tried to read an essay on love, several joke tellers. Highlight was George McKeown who came out with his pants rolled up and jacket over his head gave a Monty Python-type summary of the evening. | Xmas cracker joke Sapich Staff |
1994 | Renee's ride (Stephanie - French girl) drove right past, so since she had to bring in a ton of clay I drove her to Manukau Tech. After school I went to Doug's surgery so he could fit a bite splint. (I am to wear it at night in hopes that it will discourage grinding and the clenching that often times seems to become a habit with me. I of course don't like the thing).
1998 | T - Handed in my resignation. Wettest June for Auckland and Waiuku was wettest area.
2000 | F - TP at our place. de Villiers came along for the first [ed. - and only] time.
2001 | Doug stopped in and we met Marcia.
2002 | Bought a mammoth duffle bag at Big 5 for Gail to fill. After reports of smoke smell from realtor walk-through we washed Bill's closet and I may have to paint it. Other comments were about the road noise and the price is probably $20,000 too high. Gail and I tried the Peavine Trail for a short distance and we'll go back one afternoon and do it all the way to Watson Lake.
2006 | I had the privilege of being driven to Papakura in Ian's new Toyota Vitz. From there to Bev's where there was a full house for TP. Son-in-law, Jon, had a bottle of Wyndham '03 Shiraz, and since I wasn't driving...
2007 | Whites over for a couple rubbers of bridge - wine of the night: Jacob's Creek '04 Shiraz. Watched All Blacks in shock loss to Australia, 20 - 15.
2009 | Up early to bring Gail to Super Centre. Removed cast, x-rayed, new weight-bearing cast and a simple "some sign of bones healing". Had sandwiches there for lunch, then upstairs for a breast screening (Gail, not me). Manukau Toyota, where we test drove a beautiful blue IST and a blue Platz. Ended up buying a 2006 white Yaris that is still under new car warranty.
2019 | Su - Met Linda's husband, Ken, at Russell's (he's bringing Russell to airport tomorrow). Watched Ross' son, Brendan, win a horse race. I guess Ross and Earl were both jockeys, too. That made us late, but still made it there before the game started. I bought us "hot dog"s which are batter covered sausages. Manu, who won "Dancing With the Stars" did a dance from the show at half-time. Despite the Eels having two players sin binned at the same time the Warriors couldn't take advantage. They had the lead with 2 minutes to go when they couldn't make a tackle on a guy who ran 80m to score. With 12 seconds left Patrick Herbert kicked a 40 meter goal to tie the game. Then they lost it to a Golden Point.
2023 | F - Left at 4PM for Russell's. Peter didn'show. So I sat next to his nephew, Isaac, who didn't know much about league. Game was played in torrential rain which led to many errors. So the Warriors were on the losing end 28 - 6.
