David, Wati, Ian, Susi, Peter and I hiked along the Lawaki river to a crest where Ian pointed out Maidenform Mt. [ed. - twin peaks, eh?]. Got classic photos of the Whites. |

1971 |
Congressman Ghetto had 8 large puppies. She dug a "nest" out the front door. Woody began making a hot water heater. |
1973 |
"Mufti" day - kids get to wear street clothes for a 10¢ "donation". After school I helped set up the Community Centre. I was on the door with Barry. A lot of complaints and people leaving. Was what I would consider an old time dance combo playing dipsy tunes.
Older people who were dressed to the 9s left because of the behaviour of the kids. Kids left because the music sucked. I met Roop Ram, who is from Cuvu. I invited him over for a meal. |

1974 |
Got out of last period so I could get to the Y and be ready for the 60 kids who showed up for Friday Junior Basketball at YMCA (9 teams).
Went over rules, had an exhibition game, did beginner drills. Stayed on to watch Jr Badminton. |
1976 |
Simon gave me a lift to school and I gave him a Four Freshman album for his birthday. In 4C's debacle I had to send Daryl Payne and Linda Davies out for eating potato chips. Synnott gave me a ride to practice. Had a long workout on breaking a zone.
Watched Monty Python - Is There Life After Death. |
1979 |
Th - David Cohn came to the school and ended up with a job as a math teacher, so I had lunch with him. |
1980 |
Sa - Drove to Penn Realty in Crystal with Chris and spent three hours talking to Dad about his job. Apple Valley for an evening at the Kelley's.
Several beers and Tom showed me his MBA books and helped me with resumes and agencies. |
|
1981 |
Su - "Three Muskateers" play with Mom and Chris at the Mpls Institute of Arts. Mom and Chris got there first and they wouldn't give Chris the tickets (imagine how he was dressed) without a receipt. I showed up in my sports jacket and had, wisely, brought along Angi's letter (she had bought the tickets). After some sweet talk she gave them to me. |
1982 |
M - Gail went to a Home Products (Homco) party at Menne's and bought a pair of owls. |
|
1985 |
F - Rosedale to close on the house selling it to Jeff. Ended up with $892.97. If had stayed renting we would have saved $US24,000. Mary and David (realtors) gave us a photo album with pictures of the house. We gave them NZ key chains. They took us to lunch at Red Lobster.
Couldn't find a table for the five of us (closer - Bev Beran) so we split into two groups. Had a look at Rosedale Shopping Mall, where Gail found her "lovebirds" piece. |
|
1986 |
Maxi Mart (similar to KMart and first of its kind in NZ) grand opening. Waited in line from 9AM to 1:30PM. Lasted thru a rain shower for which we were prepared. Worth the wait? Well, no great bargains - they were all gone and the new announcements were for things we didn't need.
Did get a swingball for $26, a lawn edger for $21 and Buccaneer for $5.98.
Also got NZ Monopoly ($17) and garden supplies. Got out at 3:30PM. Kids tried the swingball and we played Buccaneer. |

1990 |
Fellow claiming to be an artist wanted to sell "works". But he didn't know who Goldie was, so I sent him on his way. |
1993 |
Box from Mom: small battery vacuum cleaner, Elvis shirt, NKOTB shirt, calculator, Coleman® generator, stuffed tiger, dog and tucan, two watches, 3 fanny bags, 2 videos (SuperBowl, Vikings and family Christmas). |
|
1997 |
Sa - Pak 'n Save has a French Fries vending machine. |
2018 |
Th - Gail and I spent 3.5 hours driving to Bev's (3 stops). Played Formula D (apprently Bev and family played their own rules so she had much to learn). Then we had supper (Gail's goulash and Bev's "salad"). Couple games of Finca then a delicious raspberry dessert.
Ended with Castles of Burgundy. Left at 10:15PM and got home 2.5 hours later. |
2019 |
F - Castles of Burgundy, curry meal and then I brought out Brass Birmingham (2018 game of the year).
David and I played the other Brass I discovered that you need to pay an iron to clear a tile, so we restarted the game. |
2020 |
