1967 Worked at Honeywell after uni classes - paycheck = $13.36. Night shift 11PM - 7AM at Holiday Motor Motel in Golden Valley where I am the only person on duty. Had a St Louis Park victory party going on in a room so I had to go and ask them to quieten down. Later I let a guy who was wandering around into the wrong room. A kid came into the motel about 2AM and said he had shot his brother, so I called the cops who came to collect him. It took half an hour and I spent the whole time trying to calm him as he was very agitated and crying.
1980 M - First day at The St Paul Companies. Walked into the room set my briefcase down at the head of the table and said: "Shall we begin?" We filled in forms for Marcia, got a TB shot, were given parking stickers and ID card. Dick Hansen went through a long introduction. Then about himself and had each trainer do the same (Chuck Hoffman, Dave Weible and Carolyn Elliott). Then we paired up and spent 10 minutes finding out about each other so we could introduce our partner. I was with Sharons Plemmons - primary teacher for 10 years - grew up in Alaska, uni in CA, married to a military guy while in Germany. No kids. I thought it interesting that we two had sort of parallel lives. Others: David Matthews (Saxophone - CompSc), Neil Merck (biology - 2 VWs), John Stenglein (teacher), Rick Johnson (CDC), Paul Diefenbach (CompSci), Kathy Voegler (WesternLife), Claire Hoyum (Spanish teacher) and Curt Villars (Yuppie). At 10AM we had coffee with all the VP's. Met Bob McMonigal whose department I will be in. While talking to the ISD VP I suggested we should see the downtown office. He referred to that in his speech. We voted that classes will be 8AM-4:30PM. Went to lunch at 11:30AM. Expensive. Brought a copy of menu up to our room. I used the trick I learned as a teacher - the kid right in front of you is often ignored, so I took the front desk. On it we had 10 large books/manuals and other gear. Took a "robbery" quiz which was to show us not to assume. Started Jackson Design.

1997 Mon - Day 84 of our 3 month journey around the world. See 1997 Trip Photo Journal.
1999 W - Checked out Papamoa and mall near Atmores and then back to their place for lunch. Drove home non-stop. Paul stopped in with carpet samples, so I opened an excellent '98 Matua CabSauv Merlot.
2000 F - Brought Gail to Mercy for MRI and CT ($1500) of her tumor. Had supper at Jolly Farmer where they couldn't make a Rob Roy.
2010 W - Went in to see Gail early as I forgot to leave playing cards behind yesterday so she can play solataire. Doctors and nurses all amazed with Gail's recovery.
2012 Sa - Petanque: Ian beat me and Ash. Alan and Ana played on the other piste. Gail, Ian and I went for swim and spa soak.
2016 Th - Got a Blue Screen of Death and called the 09 number for support. I was suspicious since it should have been an 0800. Sure enough it was an Indian who took over my computer to fix it. The speil was how I am not protected but I hung up on him after asking when would he get to the part that I must buy his product. It was ransomeware attack and I was able to fix it myself.
2022 Th - After lunch we played 10th Anniversay Ticket to Ride a couple times and I won by large margins. While Gail and Ian went for Turkish I walked around the block in search of more Franco lemons. Had a 2020 Grant Bruge Shiraz that was drier than the 2021 we had last night. Then we played Finco a couple times with affogatos. Susi and I had Taylors 2020 shiraz that was dry.
