1970 | Was a long, cold night trying to sleep on the beach. One boy got up at 5AM and wanted to start cooking breakfast. Murray and I took the "supply" boat back at 10:30AM (movie) and came upon hundreds of Boy Scouts who had come from the South Pacific for a jamboree at Lodoni. We walked back to school from Natovi (about 3 miles). Photos of Nukulevu. Fran and Bryce Perry came on the 5:30PM bus. We talked until 1AM - swapping car stories.
1976 | Aldies brought us to the maternity home and then took David to the farm (Trish says that I gave them an aspirin for him). A 7lb Renee Desli born at 6PM. I stayed around until 7:45PM. Walked home and called Aldies. They brought Te home and we had a wine toast. (Letter from Trish tells what went on). Called Sanders, Benson and Breeze.
1978 | T - Went to Pizza Hut (Manurewa) where we ran into the Kays. Family size supreme = $4.75. Sanders (card) over for coffee and cake.
1980 | Met Mom at Farrell's. Kids and I were the only ones to have a meal. Renee got all shy when they came with the sundae, beating a drum. Back home for coffee and cake. Watched Carson tape.
1984 | W - Kathy and I walked into town, met Helen Bold and Tony Cranshaw. Bought gifts for the family and priced things at Smith & Brown. Simon picked me up and brought me to Redhill. Chris is tall and very shy - saw his computer setup. Stayed for a meal and caught up on all the QVS/Rosehill teachers. Fran is taking yoga. Julie is a hostess in a bar at the Sheraton.
1985 | Th - Newton Road to a great used book store. Ian bought us lunch. Farmer's carpark and then the art museum and Queen St. Ian bought a Fozzie Bear mask and a tractor for Matthew. We sat in the Farmer's ramp for 30 minutes to get onto the street and then it took another 50 minutes to get going on the motorway
1986 | F - Into Auckland and viewed the Qin Shihuang exhibition at the Art Museum. Interesting film - so much to learn about China. The actual clay figures (soldiers and horses) didn't inspire me at all.
1987 | We brought two small walnut trees to Greg Lowchow. Way down in valley of Hunua Gorge off of Red Hill. From there we went to Anil's new house on Red Crest. Shairam and his wife Pushba were there. Small house but clean. Yard is all clay and wet. Trees need pruning so I explained to Anil what he should do for each one.
1990 | Went to Elsie's - only ones bowling. Mom and Bob knew all the waitresses and Bob went to school with Elsie (video). I used my new wrist support for the first time and got 176 and 164 (video). Drove to Red Wing to climb a hill only to see smog everywhere - pretty depressing (video). Prescott, Wisconsin to the Steamboat Inn where we met Chris and Mary Ann. David had quail, mom had frog legs and me, lobster. With a Rothchilde Bourdeaux Blanc. Gail called to say that Dick did not have his operation.
1993 | Went to Lilliput for a couple rounds. Gail got the only hole-in-one, but she knocked me in for one. I won the first and David the second. (score card).
1997 | F - Day 60 of our 3 month journey around the world. See 1997 Trip Photo Journal.
1998 | Sa - Gail went to an art course and did a pastel nude.
1999 | Su - Ian, Gail and I went for a walk on Butchers Bridge Rd to Codlin discovering Maxine Bremner's place, so we stopped in to say "hi" and she showed us around the property. Gail and I walked home via Whiriwhiri, while Ian backtracked to his car. Audrey dropped in with a card and two bottles of wine. David home - he snow boarded. |
|
2001 | Titania and Radzeal visited.
2002 | Picked up the UHaul trailer and put it into the driveway. Went to Castle Golf with Ne and she beat me 53-54 (getting a hole-in-one from the first tee helped her). Only ones playing. Ne and I got Albertson's chicken for the final supper at 1500. Couldn't get the lights on the trailer to work and finally gave up. Purnie's to say "goodbye". Tearful time for Joyce and not because someone picked all her peaches. From then on it was empty the house, load the trailer and clean. |
Albertson's chicken |
2009 | Sa - Coffee and Ne's baba birthday cake. Went to the final Warriors game. Juniors blew a big lead and lost 46 - 44. Should have been a tie, but a missed point-after kick was counted. Big boys looked like little boys, losing by about 30 - 0, I lost interest when Melbourne was given a try on an obvious forward pass.
2016 | M - Clayton dropped off a cabinet (found his Brit debit card in it) that I bought and clothes to go to OpShop. He and I walked the beach.
2020 | Sa - Russell dropped in. Opened gifts. I had Kizzie carry 8 bags of Salt & Vinegar from the garage to Ne. And he loved doing it (and getting a treat). Couple games of Dominion and then cheesecake. Ne gave me a Father's Day ticket - didn't win.
2023 | T - We did the birthday backwards starting with dessert (cheesecake), open gifts then Dog Park and Yedo. Pork chops and Kingdom Builder. AFL: Pies (finish in 1st place) 101 - Bombers 31.
