Up at 6AM. Went to foodstore for an inventory and Meri informed me that the boys were staying on Nukulevu for another week. She talked me into going with the food run. So I ran and got my stuff that had been ready for three days now. Of course, "Fiji time" meant that I then waited for two hours. Mere, Mataiasi L. and Sefania's boy and I rode over in a trailer
pulled by Jo's tractor. Philip Low took us over in his small motor boat. (movie).
Got there at noon in time for lunch (salty casava, tinned sardines and tinned peaches). Murray was burnt to a crisp. Atmores had come over to look for shells (what are the odds they'd find any with 30 boys searching them out for food for a week?).
Then McDougall and Breeze showed up in John's new boat. Rongorongo carried Simon to shore. Eric went back leaving Murray and me in charge. Rongo, Baracuda and I went on the reef hunting for food. Spent about two hours in the water and filled a bucket (movie). When we got back a curried corn beef and casava dinner was ready (movie). Cagi was ill so we contacted McDougall via walkie talkie. I took some sunset shots.
It was a night of tall tales and no sleep (beach too bumpy and a snorer). More Photos |

F - 8617 where I met with Connie and Mr Aamot showed me everything I needed to know about the place. Got Gail and we signed mortgage papers downtown. Had lunch with Connie. Filed homestead papers.
Jackie Menne from next door welcomed us. Gail shampooed basement carpet while I tore out the livingroom's. Townhouse at 9PM. |

Sa - Bob and Mom over for Ne's birthday. They gave us 3 steel yard chairs and gave Ne a Strawberry Shortcake wading pool (had to tape 3 gashes). Sat outside and the neighborhood kids came round to watch Ne open her gifts:
couple Snoopy toys and two dolls. Mom left after an hour. Dad and Lavonne came at 2PM with a doll stroller (that we had to assemble). Ne arrived back from Swansons with a fudgecicle. Dad said when she finished it he would give her the gift.
She handed it to me. I brought Dad and Lavonne to Western Life and showed them what I do there. |

Leighton brought me to see our house - terrible condition, holes, broken windows, trees and bushes hacked down, messes everywhere. NZ Steel offered me $23,000, airfare for the family and 10 cubic meters to work in the Info Centre. Kathy, Mike and I celebrated and opened a wine. |

W - K' Road to shop. Murray disappeared.
Spent 3 hours exploring the shops. Swensen's Ice Cream for Ne's birthday treat. Monte Criscos were terrible and the malted was only a shake. But the desserts were good. I had a Gold Rush, Ne had the Super Sundae and Ian had a big banana split.
Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World. Watched a slide show and then we went around three times on the conveyor belt through the tunnel - fish on one side - sharks on the other.
Ian and I had yaqona and looked at slides. |

On the road by 10AM. Found snow on Desert Road. So it was snowball fights. Climbed a hill in attempt to let Matthew slide down on a piece of cardboard, but too wet (video).
He ended filling his boots with snow in the end and wasn't too happy. Spent an hour mucking around, had lunch and headed north. Stopped in Taupo for ice cream (banana berry), Craters of the Moon (video) and Huka Falls (video).
Opened Father's Day gifts: a couple lights than plug into lighter socket (van and car), blank video and a video cleaner. |

Had Joan bring me to Tim's where they didn't want to accept a personal check from "Town"
for a car who's owner is "Gonzalez" being given to them by a guy named "Malecek". So I paid with my VISA. Red Lobster and used up the credit Alice O'Brien gave us as a treat for selling the house. Had my first go at cracking crab legs and also downed a smallish lobster tail and some scampi before having Charles bring me a banana cheesecake. |
